Chapter Ideas for Volunteering and Fundraising

Volunteering and fundraising for various organizations is something that HOSA members can take much pride in. However, coming up with different ideas for these activities can often be the most difficult part of the process. Thus, here are some different ideas to help your chapter give back to your community, or to a differing organization with purpose. Make sure you do not restrict your chapter to only these ideas. Get creative and make this the best year of service for your HOSA chapter!

Ideas:

  • Have a bake sale and donate a large portion, or all of the money raised.

  • Do a ‘change drive’ and collect change from other students at your school, donating proceeds. You can make this activity more fun by creating a competition between grades as well.

  • Have a stuffed animal drive and collect stuffed animals from all students, donating these to a hospital, though ensuring that you are abiding by the hospital’s requirements.

  • Make or buy bracelets and sell these to any willing students, donating the majority of proceeds.

  • Work at a run with a charitable cause.

  • Trick or treat during halloween asking for donations to an organization.

  • Canned or dry food drive for a local homeless shelter.

  • Create care packages for individuals or a group.

  • Make tie blankets or quilts with your chapter and give these to a local organization.

  • Have a clothing drive.

  • During the holiday season, ring bells for the Salvation Army and/or participate in Adopt-a-Family

  • Set up an area to do vision screenings at your school or another.

  • Volunteer to teach elementary students a skill such as handwashing or Hands-Only CPR.

  • Volunteer to educate grades or a school about a medical issue or disease.

  • Pick a neighborhood and rake anyone’s leaves, bagging and disposing of them.

  • Raise money for an in-need individual with a medical condition.

  • Sell your own chapter HOSA T-shirts and donate a portion of the funds.

  • Host a blood drive at your school.

  • Sponsor a community-based organization by creating a fashion show, talent show, or carnival at your school and donate the money from the tickets to that organization.

  • Host a 5K

  • Have a brat fry and donate money earned
